A Student From Nicaragua
With Mr.
Riding BC's Interior High Country is an unforgettable experience.
At Jandana Ranch we practice Natural Horsemanship following the model as set out by Ray Hunt, Pat Parelli, and Tom Dorrance. With this philosophy people can learn the language of the horse and how to use it. We need to be effective both on the ground and on the horse's back in order to prevent the communication problems, fear, injury, and frustration so prevalent in the horse world today. All of our horses have a solid grounding in Parelli Natural Horsemanship. There is nothing so wonderful as having a horse as your teacher.
All of our lessons and clinics deal with Natural Horsemanship principles and are based on the psychology of the horse, safety, fun, leadership and respect. All ages are welcome. People with disabilities can learn to communicate with a horse without riding! We concentrate on confidence building and help overcome fear issues. Young children are so pure! They catch on so fast!
Please check our Calendar of events page on our website for Horsemanship camp information and for Ladies Horsemanship weekends as well as other activities held throughout the season.
Half hour sessions for little folk. Children are so natural. They no preconceived fears or attitudes. They know how to marvel in the moment. Our mini sessions introduce very young children to the skills of riding and learn to develop safe practises around horses while having fun. Be prepared to stay longer as your child will most likely want to brush the horse, help with chores, or play with the collection of other animals at the ranch.
Same as above but more preparations taken for riding outside of an arena, leading to trail riding safety.
Learn the principles of Dressage from a natural horsemanship prospective. Achieve lightness, communication, and a feeling of freedom without the use of force or manipulation. Feel what it is like to connect with a horse with harmonious partnership. Classical dressage principles following the philosophies of the masters and of Karen Rohlf of "Dressage Naturally" .
All guests participate in an orientation before riding to introduce you to the principles of natural horsemanship which will enable you to create a relationship with your horse. We instruct our guests to ride with focus and correct body positioning so that they can communicate with their horse "invisibly" eliminating "harsh or rude techniques".
The rides at Jandana are designed to incorporate the features of open meadow riding, hills, forested areas, and scenic viewpoints for your enjoyment. At Jandana we ride all 4 seasons so depending on when you visit you may enjoy the fragrance of the spring flowers, or pick wild raspberries, strawberries or Saskatoons in summer, ride in the brilliant fall colours or the powdery snows of winter. Regardless of the season there is always something to see on the trails. Maybe you'll spot your first moose or have the silence broken by the hooting of an owl. Bears are a common sight! It's all out there to enjoy.
For the safety of your child, inexperienced children should have been involved in a lesson program for riding on our trails on the trails. Safety and fun, together with being able to come away with skills necessary to communicate and control a horse will make your child's and your experience at Jandana Ranch a success.
