Of course this means that we lost Daena as a wonderful instructor........sigh...
May: For the second time, the Jandana Ranch savvy team was invited to The Okanagan Breeder's Group Horse Fair Industry Fair in Armstrong. Our team of Janice, Lenox, Daena and Julie presented an example of what we do at the ranch with Natural Horsemanship. On the second day we encouraged volunteers from the audience to participate in some simulation games which were great fun.
Clinics presented by Janice Jarvis:
May: Preparing the horse and rider for the Trail.
Skills for horse and rider which were fun, informative and necessary to help the horseman have a safe and enjoyable time in the backcountry.
"Good news, first thing when I woke up this morning I was on Jimmy. Turns out Lynn was on Rico when she woke up. The horses have us! Thank you so much for the clinic this weekend. It was everything we had hoped for and your patience & understanding make it a real pleasure to accept the challenges of beginner horsemanship. We are so grateful to have crossed your path early in our new learning curve. For me, the highlight was developing a sense of partnership with a horse for the first time in my life. After just a few days it felt like Jimmy and I were feeding off our mutual desire to learn and there was a real sense of communication starting to happen. I could have woken up today and kept going down that path."
Michael and Lynn, Nelson, BC
Caitlin and Aly: Balance and Focus
Several Natural Horsemanship Foundation Clinics were offered to introduce people to the wonderful journey one can have with their horse. Developing language, respect and trust, Janice led horse owners and their partners to the amazing concepts of Natural Leadership and communication.
'Coming to the ranch with "not agenda,' was sooo perfect!! as I think my ego would not have been as up for 3 days of learning as I was!!! And am!! It is so much safer to stay in the teacher role, for me, than the student! far less vulnerability!
I am feeling very "full" and excited . Can I even relate or remember any of it??!!! a process I always warn people about!! After having such a flood of new information!!
I just love the way things "line up" when we are ready and open for more. The fact that I was so opposed to "parelli" work until I met the right teacher!! That I brought "that' particular horse - I would definitely have brought someone different if I had come with a learning agenda!! Thank you so much for sharing so much of yourself and your gifts."
Helen from Armstrong
Ladies Introduction to Natural Horsemanship Weekends have always been fun to host. We cover many things from understanding horse language in a herd setting, solving fear issues and attaining confidence, developing lightness and focus to riding the mountains in our back country. Because of the interest from partners of the opposite sex we are planning more of these weekends for all to enjoy. Girls just can't have all of the fun all of the time!
in Lumby. It is always a good thing for anyone's learning to connect with a mentor and to watch and work with an accomplished horseman. Lenox, Julie Spink and Janice spent several days with Larry reinforcing and honing skills, working on less is more and becoming more intuitive in our approach with our horses.
September: Nancy Roman of Saddle Up magazine and The North Okanagan
Nancy Roman , is the award winning editor of Saddle Up Magazine!
Fillies came for a weekend of horsey fun. Lenox and Nicolle guided them on a beautiful ride in the hills above the ranch. Disappointment was voiced as Janice said she couldn't go too. That was because she was busy putting together a surprise wine and cheese, delivered on horseback on a gorgeous promontory which allowed a person to see as far as south Kamloops. Very sneaky...
Thompson Rivers University visited Jandana on 3 separate occasions with groups of 24 enthusiastic riders from all over the world.
Day Camps: 5 Horsemanship camps of 4 days each were offered this summer , all ages were welcome. A highlight was to see 9 year old Saren and her grandmother attend the same camp. Gwen, you looked so grand on big Bud!
Our Mini Rider program was extremely well received this year.
What a joy to take young, pure people and introduce them to Natural Horsemanship. Just ask Grace, age 5, who she rides. "Well, Frohlich of course!" Now, if you don't know Frohlich, she is Janice's big Warmblood mare and partner of 19 years, whom no one else rides nor does Frohlich allow it! But with Grace she is butter in her small, light hands.
Lucas and Roxie! Lucas started out as a Jandana Mini Rider 3 years ago!
Staff:
Lenox Neher, Nicolle Middleberg, Mirka , Jacki Tardi , Janice and Dave, such a team!
Lenox, Kaiya and Beau
Thank you for a super year, Lenox!
Your remarkable skills and experience with people and horses have been an invaluable assett to Jandana Ranch.
Mirka Simakova from the Czech Republic was one of our talented instructors this year.
We welcome her back in 2012!
Nicole Middleburg and Jacki Tardi joined us again for another year. Both young women have been a regular entity at Jandana from the time of when they were just little girls!
The Brit Posse:
Our team consisted of Dani Schoof of Kamloops ( and now one of the Jandana gang with her own horse, Sirabbi ) and her Brit friends from the Uk: Chris Drayson, Roger Teal, Sheila, and Maureen. What a ride that was! From the Nicola Ranch in Merritt to the KXA in Kamloops, 5 full days of beautiful views, long days, dust and camaraderie! Well, in September, Roger and Chris returned to Jandana for a full week of NOW becoming a student of the horse. What fun! What success! Janice is proud of you Chris and Roger! Anyone can learn to ride a horse. It is simply, merely the act of NOT falling off. BUT, not just anyone can become a horseman! You are so on your way!
I know that there was more of everything going on this year, just to much to mention! look for an inspiring year in 2012. People keep asking us if and when we are going to retire but the fact is......how can we and besides there is a faction here who has let us know that retirement is just not an option! So.....back to yoga classes it is...
Peace be with you!
Janice, Dave and Lenox
Horses ARE Easier To have success with horses, it is necessary for the human to have emotional, mental and physical fitness. So that horses can handle their humans, they need emotional, mental and physical fitness as long as the human has the savvy to be able to understand their needs and wants. When communicating with a computer the very same should apply; Emotional fitness to prevent tears of frustration, a daunting task. Mental fitness to process the huge amount of technical information needed to do a simple task, to remember that information and then to readily have it at your finger tips along with a multitude of other techno skills needed to do another seemingly simple task. And... Physical fitness to prevent the sophisticated machine and the printer and the scanner and the external hard drives from being drop kicked from the highest point of the deck to secumb to Newton's quite permanent law of gravitational force. With the help of the Site CM team at Idealever in Kamloops, Janice challenged their young and very patient technical staff and upgraded the look of the Jandana site. Emotions soared, mental capacity grew and physical fitness improved from hours of working on the thigh master at the same time. But the real test was yet to emerge. Letting go is a difficult thing for a human. If you want to succeed with horses it is one of the most important concepts for success. Freedom of body and mind and following focus and energy are all needed to enable the horse to flow with their partner and vice versa. After the external hard drive crashed with thousands of tediously sorted, catagorized and edited photos, and saved so deligently on a safe piece of hard ware, it is my belief that if my missing photos are a test then I have truly passed. I haven't shed a tear in over 2 weeks....I guess I have.... "Let Go!" Onward to a great and positive 2012!

Different forms of massage techniques will be taught, and when and where to apply them. Add to this some key acupressure points for relieving pain and energy blockages, as well as learning how to properly perform beneficial stretches for your horse, and you are going to come away from this weekend with a tool kit to help your horse maintain optimum health and happiness!
